Portland fines the US Government $192,000, and counting, for un-permitted fence

Portland City Commissioner Chloe Eudaly, Portland Bureau of Transportation’s head, stated that the fence the US Government set up around the Mark O. Hatfield U.S. Courthouse was done without a permit, and is illegal. As Portland officials find it ok to burn Federal buildings, and throw rocks at Federal Agents, they certainly draw the line at putting up a fence that hinders the rioters right to riot.

To rectify the situation, the City is fining the US Government $500 every 15 minutes the fence stays up.

Eudaly states the Federal Government is “overreacting” to “a few” violent demonstrators, and went on to say that the city fully intends to collect the money they are assessing in fines. As of Monday, she said the Federal Government owed Portland $192,000.

Eudaly added (she is) “committed to doing everything in my power to end this federal occupation and move forward with our community’s reckoning with racial injustice and our efforts to transform our approach to policing and public safety.”

Further, she stated “each and every one of you has a constitutional right to exercise your freedom of speech and to peacefully assemble, and the actions of a few should not negate these rights, and the response of law enforcement should be proportional to the infractions. Indiscriminately tear-gassing and firing impact munitions at thousands of peaceful protesters is not a proportionate response.”

Last week, commissioner Eudaly went on record of accusing President Trump of “violating the constitutional rights of Portlanders … attempting to use Portland as a proving ground for fascism, and … plan[ning] to invade cities across the country, cities that are political targets of the president.”

The federal courthouse, and those who guard it, face nightly attacks from violent protesters and rioters. So far, Portland has seen 60 days straight of riots and looting, and there isn’t an end in sight.
